Elemental Coatings Awarded $750,000 USAF Contract to Further Develop Anti-Icing Coatings for Large Military Jets
Elemental Coatings, a Houston, TX-based chemicals company that produces anti-icing and anti-scaling coatings for aerospace, transportation, and infrastructure applications has been awarded a $750,000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II contract from the United States Airforce (USAF) to further develop anti-icing protection for large military jets. Working in collaboration with the Boeing Corporation, Elemental Coatings is developing an anti-icing coating to minimize ice buildup, improve safety, and decrease mission-readiness times for military aircraft.
“Ice buildup is an ongoing challenge for the aerospace industry in terms of cost, safety, and downtime. We can help mitigate these challenges by further developing our passive anti-icing coating technology for military applications,” said Brian Huskinson, CEO of Elemental Coatings. “We are incredibly excited to apply this cutting-edge technology to help the Airforce battle challenging icing issues, and we appreciate the opportunity to work with the United States Airforce.”
The new anti-icing coating with be built upon Elemental Coatings existing Ice-Lite anti-icing coating line. The Ice-Lite series will be modified to increase its ice-shedding capabilities and durability in order to withstand the harsh environments seen by military aircraft.
